Slower work. More focused pressure.
Deep Tissue Massage is a firmer style built around slower, more focused work in selected areas. It may suit someone who already knows they enjoy sustained pressure. Stronger is not automatically better: a clear conversation about what feels comfortable is an essential part of choosing this massage.
A slower pace
The therapist spends more time on a selected area rather than moving quickly across the body. That slower contact is a bigger distinction than simply asking for the hardest possible pressure.
Clear priorities
Tell the therapist which areas you want to discuss before the session. A short booking cannot give every area the same attention, so agree what matters most to you.
Pressure that can change
Firm pressure is a preference, not an endurance test. Ask for less pressure, a pause or a change of approach whenever you need it. Do not wait for discomfort to build.
Expect a more concentrated rhythm, with longer attention to particular areas and fewer continuous sweeping strokes. It can feel more intense than Swedish. You should still be able to communicate comfortably and ask the therapist to ease off.
Start with a conversation.
Name your priorities
Describe where you would like attention and the pressure you usually enjoy. Do not rely on the word “firm” alone.
Build pressure gradually
Use the first part of the session to agree a comfortable level rather than starting at maximum intensity.
Reassess as you go
Different areas may feel different at the same pressure. Keep giving feedback and adjust the plan when needed.
Is this the feel
you’re looking for?
Consider Deep Tissue if you prefer slower, focused massage and are comfortable asking for pressure adjustments. If you are unsure about firm contact, Swedish offers a gentler direction and Balinese offers more flow between changes in pressure.
Choose your time.
If you want time spent on selected areas, say so while asking about duration. A longer booking does not need to mean stronger pressure. Confirm which session length allows the pace and attention you want, and ask for the price before booking.

Prefer gentler, flowing contact?
Swedish is a useful comparison when you would rather have smooth movement than sustained focused work.

Balinese balances oil-based movement with steady pressure, rather than making selected-area work the main focus.

Thai centres on assisted movement. Firm massage and guided stretching are different preferences.

Contact & directionsDoes Deep Tissue Massage need to hurt?
Do not treat pain as a target. Tell the therapist immediately if pressure feels uncomfortable and ask for a lighter approach or a pause.
Is Deep Tissue the strongest massage available?
It is the firmer, more focused style on this menu, but pressure should be discussed and adjusted. The aim is not to use the maximum pressure possible.
Can I ask for attention to a particular area?
Yes. Discuss your priorities before the session so the therapist can explain what fits the available time.
How is Deep Tissue different from Thai?
Deep Tissue focuses on slower pressure in selected areas. Thai includes assisted stretching and changes of position.
Should I book a longer session for firmer pressure?
Duration and pressure are separate choices. Ask about the time needed for your preferences; a longer session does not have to be firmer.
